I don't know if this hotfix was ever pushed out on a regular update later. So, instead of having different 127 addresses and the same port, trying 127.0.0.1 and different ports may solve the problem, as shown in the conf file snippet above. Some XPs will have problems with those addresses. I notice the conf file posted by kc_user contains 127 addresses that aren't 127.0.0.1. (Using the certificate approach is not necessary in order to get the scanner in the connection loop. Same approach for the SMTP server if you want to scan outbound, otherwise set the outbound to the "accept" port in Stunnel for the SMTP service. The OUTBOUND connection in the scanner is set to 127.0.0.1:42110 which matches the "accept" for the pop server in stunnel. The INBOUND connection on the virus scanner is set to the same, 127.0.0.1:42109. So, in my email, I specify 127.0.0.1:42109 on the pop connection. We use IP addresses and ports to make the connections. It's just a matter of connecting the tubes.

Like that famous expert on the Internet, Ted Stevens said, the Internet is a series of tubes. I've attached a picture of the connection from the virus scanner to Stunnel. I changed the "accept" IPs and ports to something more to my liking. Although AVG recommended only scanning the inbound email - just for the heck of it, I'm running outbound through it as well.Īs far as using the certificates - that works also. You can scan the email with a scanner if you're using stunnel. I do have a router but the same logic applies - I'm not sure how my router could suddenly cause this to start/stop working if I don't change it. In fact, I think level 2 asked me to do that also, with no luck.

Plus, one of the threads I read suggested this so I have tried without any security software running. Unless the software was updating and then backing out then updating again. I suppose it could be anti-virus software but that would not explain why it works, then does not, then works again. So changes to the system can occur without your knowledge. Security software does autoupdate on its own as well as other software. Plus, it just blows my mind that they can't see an issue on their end without me calling in. But it takes so long to get to level 2 tech support that I don't have the energy to call. It pretty much has to be since it will work then suddenly not, without making any changes on your end. I personly think it is something on the side of Att/yahoo » Error (SMTP) server does not support SSL-secured connections Other links on the topic that did NOT help me: It's not an issue of verifying the email address which seems to be the common thread. I've read quite a few posts on the topic but none seem to apply.

After I check my settings I find that if I turn off SSL it will work.

Remember, this is with me doing nothing to my settings. Until a few days ago and now it's not working again. I eventually changed them all back and for some reason they worked again. This worked but I kept getting warning emails from ATT about how my settings were not using SSL and they had to. I first noticed this a few weeks ago and after 5 hours on the phone the second level tech had me change my servers to some very bizarre server names and had me turn off SSL. If I turn off the SSL setting for incoming POP3 then it works but this is supposed to be on and set to port 995. Outlook 2003 reports a generic "the connection to the server was interrupted". For the second time now my ability to receive emails has suddenly stopped working.
